Custom Skins
This feature is still experimental. Things may change or break over time. We'll post a notice if any breaking changes happen.
Custom skins allow you to import your own materials and build unique character appearances using the SKIN BUILDER tab.
This gives you full control over how your character looks by letting you swap in different textures.
Requirements
Your textures must be UV mapped for DAZ Genesis 9 to work properly with the PBRSkin (MDL) materials used by the game.
Additionally, normal map file names must contain _N_, _NM_, _Nrm_, or _Normal_ (case sensitive) for the game to load them properly.
GWN to DAZ Naming Reference
If you're coming from DAZ Studio, use this guide to find the equivalent settings:
| GWN Term | DAZ Term |
|---|---|
| Diffuse Color Texture | Base Color |
| Normal Map Texture | Normal Map / Detail Normal Map |
| Specular Lobe 1 Roughness Texture | Specular Lobe 1 Roughness |
| Translucency Color Texture | Translucency Color |
Step-by-Step Example
This example uses the default DAZ Genesis 9 skin textures. If you don't have them, download them from the Genesis 9 Starter Essentials page.
Step 1: Find Your Textures
Navigate to the \Genesis9\Base\Feminine_04 folder. This contains all the texture files you'll need.
Watch this video tutorial to find out where to find textures for any DAZ character.
Step 2: Apply Your Textures
- Go to the Head tab in the Skin Builder
- Select
G9Feminine04_Head_D_1001.jpgas your Diffuse Color Texture - Click Build and Update Skin
Step 3: Save Your Work
Once you're happy with your custom skin, save it as a Skin Preset so you can share it with others or use it later!

Of course, you can go ahead and add the rest of the textures.
